2013 Fall Photo Shoot

Posted By epicmotion / December, 19, 2013 / 0 comments

The photo shoot is always one of the highlights of the season and this time around we went downtown to Tribeca to take advantage of the area’s unique atmosphere. Shot over two days back in late-October, the photos are the work of photographer Roman Aguila and our marketing director Omari Allen (yours truly). You can find more photos from the shoot around the rest of the website as well as on our Facebook page, and they will be used throughout the remainder of the season for promotional materials.

Check out some candids and outtakes from the shoot!

Chaldea “Dea” Sevilla is a dancer and choreographer who has been training since a young age, in various styles such as ballet, tap, jazz, hula, and Polynesian around San Diego, CA. Introduced to the hip-hop dance community in 2004, she joined Future Shock San Diego under the guidance of Belle Abuyo and Rainen Paguio. Dea furthered her training with NYR, Funkanometry SD, Boxcuttuhz, and Super Galactic Beat Manipulators. Dea is now happy to call Cookies (formerly known as Choreo Cookies) home and is also a current member of Frenemies. As Dea continues to grow as a dancer and choreographer, her hope is to inspire others; teaching dance abroad as well as with StudioFX and Signature Dance Academy. Dea feels blessed on her path and looks forward to whatever lies ahead.

Kevin Nguyen was born in Iowa and raised in Chicago, where his interest in dance and entertainment started. He started his dance career when he moved to California and joined Chaparral High School’s all male dance team, Agi-lity. Kevin trained heavily with the Temecula Dance Company and Formality. He started getting serious with choreographing during his time on Formality, and was privileged to travel and teach. Recently, Kevin filmed a music video with JIVE Records artist Jawan Harris. He’s an alumni of Super Galactic Beat Manipulators and is currently dancing with Frenemies. He teaches classes at Artistic Dance Academy and StudioFX. He believes that there is always something new to discover in the world of dance, and that one must never stop growing. Kevin hopes to continue working in the industry, while also traveling the world to teach and inspire dancers everywhere.

EPIC Motion Season 6 Auditions

Posted By epicmotion / August, 30, 2013 / 0 comments

EPIC Motion is a dance company made up of dancers who came together out of a common desire to express themselves on a larger stage outside the dance studio. Our members embrace individuality which is one of the driving forces behind their innovative movement. The company, while continually learning, promotes and teaches dance in multiple forms–hip-hop, contemporary, popping, locking, waacking, voguing, breaking, jazz, and etc.If that sounds great to you then come audition for us! We are looking for dancers that move in any style, to any genre of music. We are looking for those who love to share themselves and love to learn from others.

Although EPIC Motion has formerly been a very successful competing dance company, having won numerous awards at competitions throughout the tri-state area such as 1st Place at PRIDE Dance Competition, 2nd Place at Prelude EC, and 3rd Place at World of Dance NY, we are now primarily focused on individual training and growth as dancers, choreographers, and leaders. This is achieved through internal training with accomplished external instructors as well as learning from each other’s unique talents and skills. In addition, EPIC Motion continues to perform within [and potentially beyond] the East Coast dance community through exhibition at various venues and putting together our own high-quality showcase every year.

This upcoming season we are also introducing a new season format. Previously, our seasons were divided into two halves [e.g., Fall (Season 5.0) and Spring (Season 5.5)] with auditions taking place in between. In order to better foster long-term growth with our dancers our new format features a year-long season split into three sessions (Fall, Spring and Summer), each with a different focus for the company. With that said, there will not be mid-season auditions in between sessions.

By creating a positive and challenging learning environment, we strive for originality, progress in technique, and honest artistic expression. Through frequent practices, performances, showcases, and workshops we hope to advance beyond any of our limits as dancers while growing together as a family. Ultimately, we want to use our Energy and Passion to Inspire Collaborative Motion within our dance family and community.

– The Directors of EPIC Motion
